About the Artist

JACKIE DANIEL

Jackie Daniel was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1979 to Haitian immigrant parents. Before she was a year old, the family relocated to Miami, Florida where Jackie and her older brother grew up. Jackie often sites being the youngest of two children with a six year age difference as one of the contributors to her creativity. As a child with few playmates in her age group, Jackie’s imagination was often her only playmate. Having taken only one formal art class in middle school Jackie considers herself to be a self taught artist. Intrigued at an early age by people with the ability to draw, Jackie decided to teach herself the art form. Starting with simple cartoon like figures sketched in pencil, she practiced often to hone her skills until her images were more realistic. Her interest in painting was sparked in her college years and she decided she would give it a try. Initially her paintings were blotchy and awkward but much like her progress with sketching, her painting grew better with practice. She started with acrylic paints and eventually moved to oil, her current medium of choice. Jackie’s favorite subject is surrealism and she admires the work of artist such as Salvador Dali, Yves Tanguy and more recently Vladimir Kush. Having once been featured for her art work in the Haitian Times, Jackie looks forward to sharing more of her artwork with the world.
